Red & Blue Birthday Party

i used to be a soft pastel, floral girly only kind of gal.
but lately, i'm gravitating towards bright pops of colors especially the color red!

so for my nephew's 1st birthday, since the little boy is not attach to any cartoon superheroes just yet, i got to work on a red + blue carnival theme for the day. yippee!

the party printables were designed & printed.
the monkey was a last minute addition... inspired by the little boy's skip*hop zoo lunchbag.

and they were off to sprinkle some little fairy dust to the food, candies, containers, display plates etc.

the adults were served the regular staple of fried noodles with homemade curry chicken while the kids enjoyed cucumber sticks, mini chicken burgers, cocktail sausages & spicy drummets.
we couldn't do without the traditional red eggs which was elegantly arranged on a ceramic egg display.

sweet treats included mini oreos, homemade spiral choc lolli, cotton candy floss, popcorn & strawberry pudding.

i particularly love how a simple mini bunting tied onto yellow striped straws (extras from leah's party) can spice up the look of a homebaked cake (made by the birthday boy's sister & their sweet neighbor)
i didn't get to take a shot of the inside of the cake... pretty layers of shades of green & finished with cream cheese frosting & fresh strawberries.
don't be fooled by the seemingly plain looking cake. it was really YUMS!

i didn't had a cake tray with me so i put it onto a round styrofoam, wrapped with polka dot tissue paper & circled with a bow, as a pedestal to display the cake.

ribena lemonade was the drink of the day, stored in a gorgeous glass drink dispenser from giant.
who would have guessed giant of all places stock this gem!

plain white paper cups were paired with pretty blue & red striped straws.
adorable wooden utensils were arranged separately into small glasses on top of red & white cupcake baking cups.
small little details that goes a long way!
i've been sourcing high & locally for these little treasures and finally stumbled upon one {jumping up & down in gleee}!

disclaimer: babylicious shall not be held responsible for excessive spending! :)

i'm always overly excited when a party pulls off nicely without spending a bomb :p
just goes to proof yet once again, that parties need not be expensive affairs.
just need a little DIY & perhaps a set of babylicious' PartyinABox {wink!}

have a wonderful 1st birthday, adriel!
